Within a single week, three of the market’s most prominent AI names collected Buy upgrades from Melius Research, TD Cowen and Goldman Sachs.

Microsoft, Marvell Technology and Palantir Technologies each won over an analyst for a different reason: security, networking and data control.

Behind the calls sits a broader question about where corporate AI budgets are actually landing, and which companies are best placed to capture that spending.

The upgrades follow a lopsided year: Marvell is up about 224%, Palantir 17%, and Microsoft trails the S&P 500’s 14% gain.

Valuation tells a different story.

Microsoft (MSFT)

Melius Research’s Ben Reitzes sees AI creating a security problem, and Microsoft selling the fix.

His Oct. 5 upgrade from hold to buy carries a $665 price target, implying roughly 25% upside.

Agent 365, which extends Microsoft’s security tools to AI agents, already has nearly 40 million agents registered, reflecting long-standing relationships with large enterprises.

Azure and other cloud revenue grew 43% in the June quarter, and management says demand still exceeds capacity.

At 27 times fiscal 2027 earnings and expected annual profit growth of 15%, the stock carries a price-to-earnings-to-growth (PEG) ratio of 1.8.

The risk is capacity: building data centers fast enough demands heavy spending that could squeeze margins and earnings.

Palantir Technologies (PLTR)

Goldman Sachs analyst Gabriela Borges upgraded Palantir to buy from neutral on Oct. 8, with a $230 price target, even after a 65% run over three months.

Her case rests on companies wanting to keep control of their data and AI models, which favors Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform and the custom applications built on it.

PLTR’s management guides to about $8.1 billion in 2026 revenue, up roughly 82%, and analysts expect annual earnings growth of 53%.

The price of that growth is steep: 123 times forward earnings, a PEG ratio of 2.3 and the narrowest upside of the three, though Goldman argues the stock still screens cheaper than comparable growth companies.

Unlike MSFT, however, Palantir Technologies Inc. does not currently pay a dividend to attract income-focused investors.

Marvell Technology (MRVL)

TD Cowen’s Sean O’Loughlin moved Marvell from hold to buy on Oct. 7, lifting his target to $350 from $245, about 27% above the share price.

The catalyst was Investor Day, where CEO Matt Murphy lifted the fiscal 2028 revenue outlook to roughly $20 billion on rising connectivity and optics demand as AI shifts from training to inference.

He sees thin custom-chip margins and customer concentration as fading risks, though both still matter.

At 65 times 2027 earnings and 49% expected annual growth, Marvell has the group’s lowest PEG ratio, 1.3. Custom silicon revenue is projected to reach $12 billion by fiscal 2029, from $1.5 billion in 2025.
